Shabaan, precedes the Holy Month of Ramadan, and is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the bridge between the blessed months of Rajab and Ramadan, and hence is a month of 'virtues'. Every practising Muslim values Shabaan as a special month of good deeds. As espoused by the Hadiths of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Shabaan bestows upon all Muslims a multitude of blessings. 

The importance of Ramadan.

Lasting 29 or 30 days based on the sighting of the crescent moon, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. As a Holy Month, globally, it is a month of immense significance in Islam. It is said that during Ramadan, the first verses from the Holy Quran were revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by the Angel Jibrayil, during Layatul Qadr or the Night of Power. 

During Ramadan, Muslims fast at dawn (sawm) and end it at sunset. They abstain from eating and drinking, and sinful speech and behaviour. It also is a month of teaching, spiritual reflection, worship, self-control, sacrifice and generosity towards the less fortunate. The latter is reflected through Zakat, a form of compulsory charity. 

A month of Giving. 

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Give gifts and you shall love one another".Which is why, Ramadan gifts are customary towards ones family, friends and co-workers.
